James Ellis - Their Story
James Ellis Stevens was established in 1990. James had finished college, was looking for work and started selling his mother's art to local shops in Buckinghamshire. These were a success and it made sense to turn them into prints. Soon shops were asking for the prints to be framed and a framing workshop was established in his parent's garage.
A few years went by and they began to publish work by other artists. Their style evolved and after being approached by a greeting card company they decided this was something they wanted to do themselves. In 1997, they published their first range of greetings cards.
Fast forward to the present day and they now work from a studio in Bristol, a lovely old converted paint factory, with a selection of wonderfully talented artists.
Their focus: ‘to design and publish the best cards and stationery, being environmentally friendly, with supply and service to our customers being a priority’.
They buy 100% biodegradable glitter and confetti for the Shakies cards, print on wood pulp paper sourced from sustainable forests, use environmentally friendly vegetable based inks and starched based packaging. Even their office is run by wind power!
