Laura Shallcrass

Laura is an artist and commercial illustrator based in Queenstown where she works from her home in the hills. Laura was born in Wellington and trained as an illustrator and graphic designer before traveling the world.

Laura settled in Queenstown on her return to NZ, where her love of the outdoors informs and inspires her work. She paints in oils and gouache and draws in ink and graphite, very different mediums.

Flora and fauna feature heavily, alongside gemstones and minerals. The latter hover against ethereal yet familiar landscapes creating detailed work of infinite depth and stillness.

She has participated in a number of group shows as well as 4 solo exhibitions. A finalist for the Red Book Art Prize 2013, her work has been published in a number of publication in Australia and NZ.

Live Wires have been publishing her work in card form for 8 years.
